Mr. Bond Goes to the Movies

From Robert Wiener come the three scans seen here, all of Signet 2036. The first is a 5th printing, the middle one is a 11th printing, the one on the right is an 18th.

With most "MTI's" (Movie Tie-In books), once a work has been made into a movie, the cover will always bear some mention of the fact. Why did they drop the banner in a later printing?

Doctor No was NOT the first Bond book ... it was the sixth. BUT, it was the first "serious" Bond movie. (Casino Royale had been produced as a satire in 1967, and starred David Niven and Peter Sellers.) Perhaps Signet was worried that the film wasn't that popular.

(I sure liked it, though. All those gadgets! Like a digital watch!)
